Water Treatment Plant Construction Advances Smoothly With Single $8,000 Change Order

PLAINVILLE -- January 13, 2026, Plainville water treatment facility construction is moving at a strong pace with one minor cost adjustment, the Select Board heard January 13. Water department officials reported that the general contractor has completed all tree clearing, installed erosion controls, opened the George Street construction entrance, and excavated to the base level of the backwash tank, a component that will change how the facility handles discharge, which currently flows directly to the sewer system. The three-week outlook calls for concrete form work, structural fill, soil testing, and installation of a weather-protection canopy ahead of concrete placement. The project has produced one change order: a shift in builder's risk insurance coverage to include underground piping raised the policy value from $70,000 to $78,000, an $8,000 cost the town will absorb. Officials confirmed the figure sits well within the project's contingency budget.
