Select Board presses state on lost racing aid
Select Board · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Plainville Select Board presses state lawmaker over a $130,000 racing-aid loss. Town Administrator Brian S. Noble told the board the funding, 14 percent of the town's local aid, disappeared after a state budget provision was eliminated last year, after town meeting had already set the budget.
An unidentified state legislator, who worked with Noble and state Representative Vaughn to try to preserve the money, said the cut hit Plainville harder than four other affected communities. Chair Jeff Johnson called reviving a stalled bill to expand gaming at Plain Ridge "far and away our number one priority, legislatively." Noble said he would send a letter this week pressing the issue as a new legislative session approaches. No votes were taken.
