Select Board hears $2.9M water main bid recommendation
Select Board · Meeting of September 3, 2026
Plainville Select Board reviews $2.9 million recommendation for South Street water mains. The town received bids from eight contractors to replace aging water main, some dating to 1911, ahead of a planned road project in the corridor. The presenting engineer said a pre-bid estimate of $2.6 million for the first phase proved high: the low bid came in just under $1.7 million.
The recommendation calls for awarding combined phases one and two, about 5,200 linear feet of pipe, for just under $3 million to the lowest responsive bidder, with a third phase dependent on future funding. "I'm happy to be so wrong in this instance," the engineer said of the estimate. Construction could begin in late September, continuing into next year's building season.
