Select Board gives social media policy first reading
Plainville Select Board opens review of a state model social media policy for elected officials.
Select Board · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Plainville Select Board opens review of a state model social media policy for elected officials. The board completed a first reading of the eight-page policy, which would govern how Select Board, planning board and school committee members post online, separate from the town's existing employee policy. Town Administrator Brian S.
Noble told the board the document is "pretty boilerplate" and distributed statewide with a recommendation that towns adopt it. One member warned that social media posts, even individually, can create Open Meeting Law exposure, saying a "series of individual posts that cumulatively reveal what a quorum of the body thinks can constitute unlawful deliberation." No vote was taken; the board will circulate the draft to other town bodies before a second reading.
