Select Board faces tightest FY27 budget in years with $213K shortfall

Select Board · Meeting of March 25, 2026

Plainville Select Board approves firefighters contract amid tightest budget in recent years. The board unanimously ratified a three-year agreement with Plainville Permanent Firefighters IAFF Local 3415 (July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2029) and reviewed a constrained FY27 budget with just 2.24 percent revenue growth. Finance Director Julie Hebert cited rising employee benefits, a $590,000 increase in the King Philip Regional School assessment, and $400,000 in additional special education costs, resulting in a $213,000 shortfall.

Required cuts include elimination of a part-time treasurer position and deferral of technology upgrades. The board also unanimously approved advancement of a $22.3 million South Street infrastructure project with construction slated to begin spring 2028.
